Flood in Varanasi

When I visited last time i seen Ganga rising : The rising waters of the Ganga submerged the bathing ghats and also disrupted many of the ceremonies like ``Ganga Aarti" and cremations at this pilgrim city.

For the past few days, the river has been swirling over the time-worn steps of the numerous ghats,.

The tourists, who used to enjoy the sunrise and sunset when the rays would seemingly convert the waters of the holy river to gold, are also a disappointed lot having lost the vantage point of the ghats to view the event.

Enjoy Rain On Varanasi Ghat

I am very peripatetic .With my friends I was on the ghat in Varanasi, suddenly the weather turned pleasant and the city hit by the first monsoon shower.

People heaved a sigh of relief after the rain drenched the city. The showers were accompanied with thunder and fast blowing winds. People caught unawares by the showers took refuge under umbrellas, trees or buildings. To pass the time, we enjoyed tea at roadside stall.

Amidst heavy rainfall, roads at various places became waterlogged. The sewer water also overflowed on the streets posing problems for commuters. Also, traffic was blocked for some time and at several places commuters were caught in jams. But we enjoy all the things and it was memorable for me.

Over a period of time Tappa form of singing also became popular in Varanasi and its main exponents were Shori Miyan, Gammu Khan and Shade Khan.

Over a period of time, the Maharajas of Kashi or Varanasi also gave support to music and that resulted in making Varanasi a great center of music.. THE HOLY CITY VARANASI ( My Birth Place)

· Varanasi, is one of the prehistoric living and holy city in the world. "Benaras is older name of Varansi in our ancient history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together" .

  • Varanasi is also renowned for its music, arts, crafts and education. Varanasi is famous for its BanasiPaan. Some of the world renowned exponents India has produced in these fields were schooled in Varanasi’s cultural ethos.
